Demographics

• As of the census of 2000, there were 2,354 people, 918 households, and 631 families residing in the city.

• The racial makeup of the city was 91.21% White, 6.24% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.51% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.98% of the population.

• There were 918 households out of which 32.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

• The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.99.

• In the city the population was spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who were 65 years of age or older.
